Example

Example: turn two short lines into vertical columns

Enter AB on the first line and CD on the second. Choose the automatic column height and enable a space between columns.

Output row Left column Right column
1 CA
2 DB

The output has two rows and two columns, with a space between columns. Read the right column downwards as AB, then the left as CD. The letters become full-width so the columns line up.

How it works

  1. Type or paste the text. Each line becomes a column.
  2. Choose how many characters a column holds; longer lines carry on into the next column.
  3. The vertical text appears as you type, the first line on the right.
  4. Copy it and paste it into your post.

Frequently asked questions

Why are the letters so wide?
Every character is made full-width so the columns line up; a half-width letter or space would shift everything after it. It is the same text in wide form, not an image.
Why do the columns run from right to left?
That is how vertical Japanese and Chinese are read. For English written top to bottom, keep it to one line per column and read the columns from right to left.
Why does it look ragged on some phones?
The columns line up in fonts where every full-width character has the same width, which Japanese fonts do. Some apps show posts in a font where they are not quite equal.
Is what I type sent anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in this page as you type.
