Example
An English teacher in Istanbul: 40-hour contract, 48-hour weeks and 29 October worked
A teacher at a private language school earns 60,000 TL gross a month on a 40-hour contract. In October she worked four weeks of 48 hours and taught on 29 October, Republic Day. Each week, hours 41 to 45 are paid at 125 % and hours 46 to 48 at 150 %: 5 and 3 a week, so 20 and 12 for the month.
- Enter 60000 as the monthly gross, 12 under “Hours over 45 a week”, 20 under “Extra hours up to 45” and 1 under “Public holidays worked”.
- The hourly wage is the gross over 225: 266,67 TL. An hour over 45 pays 400,00 TL (× 1.5), an hour between 40 and 45 pays 333,33 TL (× 1.25).
- The holiday earns an extra day’s wage, gross ÷ 30 = 2.000,00 TL, on top of that day’s pay. A weekly rest day worked would count 1.5 days: 3.000,00 TL.
- Amounts are written the Turkish way, as on a payslip: 13.466,67 TL is 13,466.67 lira.

13.466,67 TL gross is added to October’s pay. Overtime is limited to 270 hours a year and needs the worker’s consent. The sums are gross: income tax and contributions come off on the payslip.

- How is it worked out?
- The hourly wage is the monthly gross over 225; hours over 45 a week are paid at 150 %.
- My contract is 40 hours a week. How are hours 41 to 45 paid?
- At 125 % of the hourly wage: enter them under “Extra hours up to 45”. Only hours beyond 45 in a week get 150 %. On 60,000 TL gross that is 333,33 TL and 400,00 TL an hour.
- How many overtime hours are allowed in a year?
- 270 at most, and only with the worker’s consent (Labour Act art. 41).
- What is paid for working on a public holiday or a rest day?
- A public holiday worked earns an extra day’s wage, the monthly gross ÷ 30, on top of that day’s normal pay (art. 47). The calculator counts a weekly rest day worked at 1.5 days’ wage.
- Will it match my payslip?
- It applies the statutory rates; allowances, incentives or a different running total change the payslip.
