Example

Example: an international student working 20 hours a week at the 2026 minimum wage

A student in Seoul works at a convenience store four days a week, five hours a shift: 20 contracted hours. The hourly wage is the 2026 minimum, ₩10,320, so the wage box can stay empty.

  1. Holiday hours: 20 ÷ 40 × 8 = 4 hours, paid at ₩10,320: ₩41,280 for each full week.
  2. The week with the paid holiday: 20 + 4 = 24 hours, ₩247,680.
  3. A month: 24 hours × 4.345 weeks, rounded to 104 hours, ₩1,073,280.
  4. Miss one of the four shifts and that week has no holiday pay; the next full week has it again.
Hours a week Holiday pay a week Week with it A month
14 ₩0 (under 15 hours)––

40 ₩82,560₩495,360₩2,156,880 (209 h)

₩41,280 a week on top of the hours worked, ₩247,680 for a full week. It grows with the contracted hours up to 40; above that the paid holiday stays at 8 hours, ₩82,560, at 45 hours as well.

Anyone contracted for 15 hours a week or more who worked every contracted day of the week (Labour Standards Act, arts. 55 and 18).
How is it worked out?
(Weekly hours ÷ 40) × 8 × the hourly wage, at most 8 hours’ pay.
Is this professional advice?
No, it is a calculator. Contracts, collective agreements and individual circumstances can change the figures.
What if I work more than 40 hours a week?
The paid holiday stops growing at 8 hours: 40 and 45 contracted hours both give ₩82,560 at the 2026 minimum wage. Overtime premiums are a separate matter that this calculator does not add.
How is the monthly figure worked out?
The weekly hours plus the holiday hours, times 4.345 weeks (365 ÷ 7 ÷ 12), rounded to whole hours as the ministry does: 40 + 8 hours make 209 hours a month, ₩2,156,880 at ₩10,320.
Is what I type sent anywhere?
No. The sums are worked out in your browser and nothing you type is sent or stored.
