Example: everyone’s age on the day of a family flight, 19 December 2026
A family is flying home for Christmas on 19 December 2026, and the booking form asks for each traveller’s age on the day of travel. The five dates of birth go in one per line, typed however they come to mind, and Age on is set to 19 December 2026.
- Numbers with slashes are read month first on this page, the American way: 07/04/2016 is 4 July 2016 and 04/03/2015 is 3 April 2015.
- The youngest turns 7 on Christmas Day, six days after the flight, so on the booking she is still 6.

On the day of travel the travellers are 43, 41, 11, 10 and 6. The ages are counted to 19 December 2026, not to today, so the same list can be checked again for the return flight by changing Age on. A day-first date is read when the day is over 12 (25/12/2019 is 25 December), but 04/03/2015 is still 3 April: to be sure, type the month as a word or use 2019-12-25.

- Each line shows the age in years, months and days, the zodiac year and the days to the next birthday.
Frequently asked questions
- How are months and days counted?
- A month is reached on the same day of the month as the birth. A shorter month without that day completes it only on the 1st of the next month: someone born on 31 January is 0 months and 28 days old on 28 February 2027, and 1 month and 1 day on 1 March.
- What about someone born on 29 February?
- In years without one, the age changes on 1 March in this calculator, which is also how most countries treat it for everyday purposes.
- Is 07/04/2016 read as 4 July or 7 April?
- As 4 July 2016: on this page, dates with slashes are read month first, as in the US. A first number over 12 can only be the day, so 25/12/2019 is read as 25 December 2019. To be sure either way, type the month as a word (4 July 2016, July 4, 2016) or write 2016-07-04. Two-digit years are taken in the century that puts the date in the past, so 8/15/85 is 15 August 1985.
- Which Chinese zodiac animal does a January or February birthday get?
- The animal changes at Chinese New Year, not on 1 January, and this calculator follows that. Someone born on 30 January 2014 is a Snake, because the Year of the Horse began on 31 January 2014; someone born on 16 February 2026 is still a Snake, and from 17 February 2026 it is the Horse.
